THE G.B.N.F TEAM
This is a little bit about the team members
KEVIN TEAM FOUNDER & WESTON QUAD RIDER:
IN 2007 I came up with the idea of raising money for Cancer Research. This was a cause close to my heart as I have lost both parents to cancer.
There are lots of ways to raise money, but for me it had to include bikes in someway.
As a family we attended motocross meetings both here in the UK & in Europe for many years. My farther was a sidecar motcross rider for 3 decades, at club level in the 70's, Nationally & Internationally in the 80's & through the classic class in the late 90's.
Like anyone that has ever had anything to do with motorcycle racing, your love of your sport never leaves you. I've had solo bikes, been a sidecar motocross driver & passenger & now a quad rider for charity.
An event was required so money could be raised for this worthy cause. Having attended a beach race in Holland & raced in the Redcar beach race i had an event in mind !!! Weston-Super-Mare beach race.
So the challenge was set .
2008 was an interesting experience as you can read on the Weston 08 tab.
I would like to thank lots of people for their support in '08 & hope they will be as supportive in '09:
Firstly, I would like to thank my family for their support & forgiveness for spending so much time on my computer or working on the bike.
To my team mate Mike , for joinging me on this project.
To all the companies that supported us, we couldn't have done it without you.
To every person that donated via justgiving, however big or small your donation it made a difference.Thanks.
To Gareth Hockey at RHL for supporting our cause & promoting our efforts.
Mark, Paul, Azi & Levi for their support over the Weston weekend.
The last person I would like to thank is Simon Lees. Simon was also raising money for a good cause but offered help & support. Cheers Simon.
Sorry if I've missed anyone, but you all helped to make a difference.
Thanks
Kevin.
MIKE - TEAM HERO AS WESTON FINISHER IN 08
My Name is Mike Harrington, married with a boy of 12.
I first got into off road biking at about 15 and my first bike was a S W Rm 80, I have since had many bikes but currently own a GASGAS ec 250. I have rode many enduros in my time both as a solo and a side car passenger. I will still do some H&H events through out the year to keep fit, and get as much seat time as I can.
Weston 2008.
I was talking with my work mate Kevin & he mentioned about doing Weston to raise money for cancer research, which as Kevin is very close to my heart. I have lost two loved ones to this horrible disease, my mother and my sister. At first I was going to help him in the pits, but for some reason decided to have a go myself, which was a real eye opener but I really enjoyed it, and finished ok was not in the top 10 but I did lose an hour when my throttle got jammed open, now hitting a dune with your bike at full throttle was very scary.
My aim this year is to finish much higher than last, and for the team to raise as much as we can for promise dreams.
Thank you for your kind donations Mike
SIMON & SARA LEES
Well, what do we say about us?? For the past 2 years we have "done" Weston in aid of Leukaemia Research, and raised around £6000 over the 2 years. Last year, Kev contacted us mainly for guidance in the best way to fundraise, but also to offer mutual support in each others bid to raise money for Charity.
This year, we had decided to have a break from fundraising ourselves, but still wanted to offer help and support to Kev and Mike in what ever way we could. So, in offering our help, we have become involved again (and are loving it!) We are mainly helping with the Raffle side of things, as we had such fantastic support from companies last year for our own raffle, that it seemed to make sense to try it again.
We learnt last year, that the more people you have helping out, the better! Sometimes, all it takes is to be able to ask someone else who's been there and done it, what to do next, or how to do it differently (and learn from mistakes!) So any suggestions really are welcome, support and help in any way shape or form gratefully accepted (but preferably donations :o) !!!), and help us raise a massive amount for Promise Dreams! THANK YOU!!!Mad Mike on his bike :o)
